Regina C. Wessel, age 90, of Melrose, died peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Melrose Area Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be after lunch at St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Christian Mothers and St. Paul's Catholic Aid of Sauk Centre will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Regina Catherine Primus was born March 22, 1919 in Melrose to William and Rose (Meyer) Primus. On June 7, 1944 she married Cyril J. Wessel in Melrose. The couple farmed in Sauk Centre Township and in 1982 they retired and moved to Melrose. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and gardening. Regina was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Melrose Christian Mothers and St. Paul's Catholic Aid of Sauk Centre.

Survivors include her children, Harold "Butch" (Betty) Wessel of Sauk Centre, Lorraine "Lori" (John) Jackels of Melrose, Alvin "Al" (Lucy) Wessel of Greenwald, Vernon "Squirt" (Karin) Wessel of Swanville, William "Bill" (Wendy) Wessel of Sauk Centre, Larry Wessel (Cecelia Grant) of St. Cloud, and Arlene (Dirk) Rohrer of Shevlin; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Alphonse (Hildegard) Primus of Bluffton, Joseph (Catherine) Primus of Melrose, Roman (Claira) Primus of Long Prairie, Sister Lynette Primus, O.S.B. of St. Cloud, Rose Schmeising of Meire Grove, and Betty (Nicholas) Moscho of St. Martin; sisters-in-law, Lorrayne Primus of Swanville, Mary Ann Primus of Melrose, and Marie Primus of Melrose.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cyril Wessel on October 17, 2001; daughter, Bernice Wessel on June 19, 1970; brothers and sisters, Alcuin Primus, Albert Primus, Urban Primus, Sister Oranda Primus, O.S.B.; and brother-in-law, Vince Schmeising.

Serving as casket bearers will be Bob Wessel, Brian Wessel, Dustin Wessel, Ryan Wessel, Chead Wessel, and Angel Budde. Cross bearer will be Gina Rohrer and scripture bearer will be Tonya Jackels. Readers will be Leticia Wessel and Nancy Suelflow. Honorary bearers will be the Mission Club, Leona Blenker, Marie Rademacher, Irene Tiemann, Rose Pundsack, Bernadine Jacobson, Mary Moening Zwack, Jeanette Mayers, Anne Hellermann, Amanda Klaphake, Kitty Mueller, Irene Pohlmann, Carol Pohlmann, Les Schulzetenberg, Jean Hinnenkamp, Lorraine Eidenhower, Mae Wiechmann, Edith Ritter, Viola Wiechmann, Hilda Rademacher, and Agnes Maus.
