Raymond "Ray" Waldvogel, age 80 died Friday, November 26, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Raymond Waldvogel was born on April 17, 1924 in Grey Eagle Township, Todd County, Minnesota to John and Mildred (Marty) Waldvogel. Ray served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was united in marriage to Bridget Arnzen on November 18, 1948 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. He worked road construction with Megarry Brothers for many years and later with Hardrives until his retirement. Ray enjoyed hunting and in the winter months when he was not working construction, he enjoyed cabinet making and ice fishing. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 and American Legion Post 101.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Waldvogel of Burtrum and his friend, Rita Bruggman of Sartell and Dennis Waldvogel of Grey Eagle; grandsons, Nicholas, Matthew, Mitchell and Derek Waldvogel; and brother, Frank Waldvogel and his wife, June of Burtrum.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bridget Waldvogel on August 15, 1999; and sister, Loretta Heisick.

Serving as casket bearers will be Kenny Arnzen, Jim Arnzen, Ron Tieman, Tim Vogel, Gene Waldvogel and Lonnie Waldvogel. Cross bearer will be Nicholas Waldvogel and scripture bearer will be Matthew Waldvogel. Honorary bearers will be George Servatius, Al Wiechmann and the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
