Raymond H. "Ray" McCallum, age 88 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, Minnesota.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 20 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle with Pastor Michael Bitz officiating. Inurnment will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls on Friday.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church in Grey Eagle.
Raymond Harold McCallum was born April 24, 1930 in Columbia Heights, Minnesota to Raymond and Evelyn (Ortenstone) McCallum. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School. Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1948 and served for three years. After serving in the Army he worked for Honeywell in Minneapolis. There he met his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Hansen. They were united in marriage on September 15, 1956 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale. Ray retired from Honeywell in 1989 and built a lake home on Mound Lake near Grey Eagle.
Ray enjoyed camping, dancing, playing cards, fishing, and watching old western movies. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle, where he served as an elder for many years.
Survivors include his sons, David (Therese) McCallum of Savage and Doug (Sheri) McCallum of Hanover; four grandchildren, Peter (Swornima) McCallum, Andrew (Emily) McCallum, Bryan (Danielle) McCallum, and Megan (Adam Dickman) McCallum; two great-grandchildren, Elijah McCallum and Abigail McCallum; and sister, Lois (George) Ziegler.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" McCallum on January 24, 2002; parents; and sister, Marilyn McCallum.
