Raymond H. "Ray" Mayers, age 89 of New Munich, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, October 26, 2018 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6:30 p.m. from the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph's Men's Society, New Munich Lions, and Catholic Order of Foresters Monday evening at the funeral home.

Raymond Henry Mayers was born August 21, 1929 in St. Martin Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Herman and Anna (Moser) Mayers. He was born and raised on the Mayers' family farm. Ray married Alda Mae Gilk on September 11, 1951 and they settled on the family farm until their retirement in 1989. They moved into town, but Ray continued to always help on the farm. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and going to the casino. His last few years, he enjoyed socializing with others and sharing his stories. Ray loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

Ray was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich his entire life. He was also a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Society, Knights of Columbus Father Pierz Council #3628, St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters, and the New Munich Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones Award.

Survivors include his children, David (Shirley) Mayers of Swanville, Mary Jane (Stan) Kortenbusch of Albany, Alice (Dennis) Groetsch of Alexandria, Ruth (Tom) Boeckermann of Lakeville, and Tim (Lori) Mayers of Freeport; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Sylvester Mayers of South St. Paul; brother-in-law, Norb Humbert of Melrose; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Mayers of Melrose.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Alda Mae Mayers on March 4, 2013; parents, Herman and Anna Mayers; brothers and sisters, Ervin Mayers, Luella Humbert, Viola Scholz, Donald Mayers, and infant sister, Loretta Mayers; and an infant great-grandson, Joseph Mayers.

Serving as casket bearers will be Thomas Boeckermann, Corey Groetsch, Kurt Mayers, Benjamin Mayers, Kim Poitra, and Shanelle Mayers. Cross bearer will be Keith Kortenbusch and scripture bearer will be Crystle Illa. Readers will be Amy Hendricks and Tina Streit. Gift bearers will be Ashley Lieser and Mike Kortenbusch. Eulogy will be read by Joel Mayers. Serving as honorary bearers will be St. Joseph's Men's Society, Knights of Columbus, New Munich Lions, and Catholic Order of Foresters.

A special thank you to the staff at Pondview Estates and CentraCare Health in St. Cloud, Albany, and Melrose for the care and love that was given to Ray over the years.
