Philip S. Dougherty, age 68 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully after a brief illness with cancer Monday, June 1, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Osakis.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
Philip Stanley Dougherty was born November 2, 1946 in Rochester, Minnesota to LeRoy and Ruth (Langmo) Dougherty. He grew up in Moorhead and then in Sauk Centre and was a 1965 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. Philip served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1977. After his discharge from the military he resided in Glencoe where he was employed at the Glencoe Area Health Center as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and in the maintenance department. He retired in 2003 and moved back to Sauk Centre.
Philip was a life member of American Legion Post 417 of Little Sauk and was a former member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Glencoe and the Glencoe Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed driving through the countryside looking at wildlife and going to casinos.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Judy Gettel of Sauk Centre; brother, Mike (Judy) Dougherty of Hansville, Washington; sister, Susan (Bryan) Van Gorp of Rushford; four nieces and nephews, Kevin (Diane Acker) Dougherty, Bridget Dougherty, Joshua (Sarah) Trisko, and Elsa Van Gorp; four great-nieces and nephews, Chance Dougherty, Ashton, Kayle, and Braelyn Trisko.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Serving as casket bearers will be Mike Dougherty, Josh and Kayle Trisko, Jocelyn, Larry, and Evan Gettel.
