Paul R. Engel, age 64, of Grey Eagle, died in Pam's arms after a battle with lung cancer on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Long Prairie Hospital in Long Prairie, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Grey Eagle.
Paul Robert Engel was born May 16, 1947 in Little Falls, Minnesota to George and Elsie (McClintick) Engel. He called South Dakota home with his first wife, Patricia Hehn. He worked as a logger in South Dakota while the couple raised three children. They later divorced and he married Pamela Reimers on July 28, 2001 at their home in Grey Eagle. Paul worked at Jennie-O Foods in Melrose while the couple farmed near the Grey Eagle area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family, friends, and their dog, Minnie. He especially, enjoyed having coffee with the guys in the morning.
Paul was a member of the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pam "Ma" Engel of Grey Eagle; children, Melissa (Adam) Avery of Henning, Christine (Mike) Maltaverne of Rapid City, SD, Paul Engel of Deadwood, SD, and Adam Engel of Sturgis, SD; sister, Mary (fiancé, Louis Thompson) Muellner of Burtrum; brother, Clyde (Darlene) Engel of Melrose; five grandchildren, Teagan, Ariah, and Allison Engel, Ijzaya Sterna, and Emily Maltaverne; five honorary grandchildren, Morgan and Riley Poepping, Troy Muellner, April and Shelby Ramirez.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois Warner; brother, Jim Engel; father-in-law, Arnold Reimers; brother-in-law, Herb Muellner, Sr.; and nephews, Herb Muellner, Jr., Danny Muellner, and Ricky Warner.
Serving as casket bearers will be Charles Fox, David "Buzz" Barber, David Tschida, Steve Hiltner, John Stuckel, and Tom Doll. Honorary bearers will be Glen VanHavermaet, Al VanHavermaet, Matt Zinniel, John Blonigen, Randy Moening, Bert Hollermann, Shawn Hollermann, Ryan Hollermann, John Schuett, and Ron Stumpf.
