Patricia J. "Pat" Petermeier, age 85 of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Virgil Petermeier, osc concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Christian Mothers will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Patricia Jane Skeffington was born August 20, 1932 in Park Rapids, Minnesota to Leo and Anna (Mertes) Skeffington. She grew up in Park Rapids and at the age of 19, she moved to Melrose to start teaching at the Petermeier School. This is where Pat met Joseph Petermeier. They were united in marriage on August 10, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed north of Melrose where they raised their family.
Pat was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening in her huge vegetable garden, potted flowers, reading, working crossword puzzles, sewing, and loved cats.
Survivors include her children, Stephanie (Tim) Hennen of Freeport, Debra (Paul) Casper of Maple Grove, and Kevin Petermeier of Melrose; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Petermeier on June 20, 2004; parents; brothers and sisters, Theresa Schmitt, Leo Skeffington, Jr., Francis Schmitt, Mary Urtel, Lorna Skeffington, John Skeffington, Patrick Skeffington, and an infant sister.
Serving as casket bearers will be Bryan Hennen, Tim Hennen, Paul Casper, Adrianna Hennen, Jonathan Brenny, and Mitch Fennell. Cross bearer will be Courtney Casper and scripture bearer will be Casey Fennell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta.
