Othmar Bromen

Othmar H. "Oscar" Bromen, age 91, of Sauk Centre, died on Sunday, April 21, 2013 with his family at his side at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 26 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and 1 hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m. followed by the United Veterans Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Othmar Henry Bromen was born March 21, 1922 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Nicholas and Rose (Dicks) Bromenshenkel. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Louise Zirbes on July 4, 1945. The couple moved to Oakland, CA until the end of the war. They then moved to Sauk Centre until 1954, to Moorhead until 1964, to Osseo from 1964 to 1970 and to Dubuque, IA in 1970. The couple moved back to Sauk Centre in 1986 where Oscar enjoyed retirement. He worked for the Sauk Centre Fairground Board and enjoyed bowling, fishing with his brothers and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion Post 67 and also did volunteer work at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his children, Paul (Clara) Bromen of Waconia, Mary Kay Coalwell of Acworth, Georgia, Barbara Anton of Moorhead, Patricia (Wayne) Whittenbaugh of Dubuque, Iowa, Phillip (Bonnie) Bromen of Alexandria, Perry (Shawn) Bromen of Dubuque, Iowa, David (Margie) Bromen of Dawson, Nebraska, Cheryl (David) Lee of Reno, Nevada; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Berscheit of Sauk Centre and Marion (Bob) Pappenfus of Alexandria.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise Bromen on May 9, 2011; five brothers; and one sister.

Serving as casket bearers will be Paul Bromen, Phil Bromen, Perry Bromen, David Bromen, John Bromen and Aaron Coalwell. Cross bearer will be Rebecca Christiansen and scripture bearer will be Wayne Whittenbaugh.
