Orva Roe

Orva E. Roe, age 88 of Grey Eagle, died on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Albany Area Hospital in Albany, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7 at Grey Eagle United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Inurnment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grey Eagle United Methodist Church.

Orva Elizabeth Mills was born May 14, 1921 in Grey Eagle, Minnesota to Orville and Minna (Feierabend) Mills. She attended Grey Eagle High School for two years while caring for her grandparents and graduated from Walker High School in Walker, Minnesota. On June 12, 1941 she married Howard Roe in Whipolt, Minnesota. The couple met while Howard was the Grey Eagle United Brethren youth leader. Orva has lived in the Grey Eagle area since 1941.

Orva was an active member of Grey Eagle United Methodist Church and Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed crocheting, red work embroidery, and making gifts for her family and friends. One of Orva's enduring qualities was to never put herself first.

Survivors include her children, Charlotte (Roy) Berg of Aitkin, Thomas (Cathy) Roe of Grey Eagle, John (Janet) Roe of Grey Eagle, Nola Warnert of Lewisville, TX, Loren (Susan) Roe of Grey Eagle, Mark (Mary Beth) Roe of Downingtown, PA, and Alan (Charlotte) Roe of Grey Eagle; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and sisters, Lillian Decker of Melrose and Nodie Shepard of Longville.

Orva was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 63 years, Howard Roe on February 16, 2005; brother, John Mills; and sisters, Emma Albrandt, Bernice Hines, and Lucille Kivette.

Serving as urn bearer will be Matthew Roe.

Memorials are preferred to the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church Building Fund.
