Olivia A. Athmann, age 98 of Melrose died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m. followed by Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers and VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary at 7 p.m.

Olivia Athmann was born September 26, 1906 in New Munich, Minnesota to George and Christine (Rieland) Metzger. She was united in marriage to John Athmann on May 10, 1927 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple owned and operated the Melrose Bowling Alley for many years. Olivia enjoyed gardening, crocheting and bowling. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Rose Bringe and her husband, Charles of Eugene, OR, Jane Zirbes and her husband, Ken of Albany and Lucilla "Lou" Williams and her husband, Gene of Outing; 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and sister, Alvina Hansen of St. Cloud.

Olivia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Christine Metzger; husband, John Athmann on February 5, 1985; one infant son; grandson, Kenneth Williams; brothers, Ray, Hubert, Art Metzger and one infant brother, Leo Metzger; and sisters, Eleanor Lembeck, Florence Emmel and Frieda Lord.

Serving as casket bearers will be Glen Zirbes, John Williams, Mike Feldewerd, Jamie Friederichs, Mark Stueve and Tim Schaefer. Cross bearer will be Beth Zirbes. Georgette Stueve and John Williams will be lectors. Honorary bearers will be Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
