Norbert B. Frieler, age 94, of Greenwald, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Pine Villa Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Tom Becker officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Norbert Frieler was born February 7, 1915 in New Munich, Minnesota to George and Anna (Wenker) Frieler. On May 1, 1945, he was united in marriage to Hildegarde Welters at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. After marriage, the couple lived and farmed near Greenwald. Upon retirement in 1981, they moved into their new house in Greenwald.He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. He served on the Lake George Township board for many years. Norbert loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Most of his time was spent at the farm or in his work shop, building and fixing things. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, telling jokes, and speaking German while visiting friends and neighbors.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Hildegarde; children, David Frieler of Gwinner, North Dakota, Mary (Henry) Tschumperlin of St. Stephen, Randy (Linda) Frieler of Greenwald, and Ann Kuhl of Melrose; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward (Loretta) Frieler of Melrose, Francis (Eileen) Frieler of Annandale, Vernon (Agatha) Frieler of Grey Eagle, Alvin (Rita) Frieler of Melrose, and Duane (Rita) Frieler of Elrosa; and sister Doris (Irvin) Goebel of St. Joseph.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Frieler; brothers, Lloyd and Lawrence (Viola) Frieler.

Serving as casket bearers will be Greg Frieler, Aaron, Adam, and Amanda Tschumperlin, Jolene, Jennifer, and John Kuhl. Cross bearer will be Brittney Frieler and scripture bearer will be Kelley Frieler.
