Monica Mayers, age 80 of Melrose died surrounded by family Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella and Women's Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Monica M. (Rosen) Mayers was born on March 22, 1926 on a farm at St. Anthony, Minnesota. She was a daughter of John and Mary (Rueter) Rosen. Monica attended school in St. Anthony. She was married to Erwin Mayers from New Munich on May 21, 1947 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Minnesota. The couple then moved to Melrose where Monica became a homemaker and a life long partner of Mayers Inc.Monica was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle of Melrose, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Red Hat Society of Melrose. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, volunteering at Pine Villa, going to the lake, fishing and playing cards with the grandchildren, socializing with friends, outings with the Red Hat Society and always helping others throughout her spiritual journey. She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Erwin; daughter, Darlene (Ray) Ostendorf; daughter, Carol (Romie) Bertram, their children, Missy and Ryan; son Bob (Julie), their children, Shawn (Steph), Sara and Michael; daughter, Deb (John) Rassier of Sidney, Montana, their daughter, Amy; son, Mark (Mary), their children, Amanda, Jessica and Eric; brother, Al (Norma) Rosen of St. Cloud.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Baumgartner and Marie Thell; brothers, John, Norbert, Bernard, Peter, Paul, and infant brother, Matthew; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and grandson, Scottie Mayers.
Casket bearers will be Shawn, Sara, Amanda and Jessica Mayers, and Missy and Ryan Bertram. Serving as cross bearer will be Regine Muellner. Honorary bearers include the members of St. Mary's Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle of Melrose, Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Red Hat Society of Melrose. Serving as gift bearers are Michael and Eric Mayers and Amy Rassier.
