Monica B. Frieler, age 101 of Greenwald, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Ann's Christian Women and St. Andrew's Catholic United Financial will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Monica Bernadine Wensman was born June 29, 1914 in Melrose, Minnesota to Casper and Anna (Enneking) Wensman. On May 4, 1937 she married Edwin Frieler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed near New Munich for 30 years. After retiring from farming, Monica worked at Stearns Manufacturing from 1966 through 1980, and then did custodial work for St. Andrew's School for 13 years. Monica enjoyed quilting, embroidering, visiting and spending time with family.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald, Christian Women, and St. Andrew's Catholic United Financial.
Survivors include her children, Henry (Diane) Frieler of Maple Grove, Arlene Desombre of Inver Grove Heights, Carol (Loren) Pemberton of Monticello, Virginia (John) Nathe of Meire Grove, Bill (Betty) Frieler of Greenwald, Sandra (Allen) Jostock of Crystal, and Kevin (Pat) Frieler of St. Martin; son-in-law, Edmund Hoppe of Blaine; 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; sisters and brother, Ann Stocks of Bella Vista, Arizona, Rose Hemple of Edina, Betty Kampsen of St. Paul, and Edwin (Caroline) Wensman of White Bear Lake.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Frieler on December 5, 1984; infant sons, Tim and Tom Frieler; daughter, Joan Hoppe; brothers and sisters, Leander Wensman, Hildegard Rosen, Ralph Wensman, Julitta Rachey, Irene Donahue, and Leona Moscho.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dean Frieler, Todd Frieler, Dale Pemberton, Paul Desombre, Jessica Nierenhausen, and Greg Nathe. Cross bearer will be Lois Johnson and scripture bearer will be Annette Kostreba. Gift bearers will be Sandy and Al Jostock. Readers will be Sarah Desombre, Lori VanderHeyden, and Cheryl Haddy. Eulogies will be given by Arlene Desombre and Kevin Frieler. Honorary bearers will be St. Andrew's Christian Women.
