Milton J. Nietfeld, age 80 of Melrose, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at his home in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will follow the lunch at St. John's Cemetery in Meire Grove.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Milton Joseph Nietfeld was born November 15, 1930 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John and Rose (Macke) Nietfeld. He graduated from the Crosier Seminary High School in Onamia. He bought the family farm with his brother, Bill in 1957 and together farmed for 40 years, selling it in 1997.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Knights of Columbus, Council #1633, Two Cylinder Club, and a lifetime member of the Pioneer Club and Stearns County Historical Society. Milton was a people person who enjoyed going to auctions, farm shows, and attended many church and local fundraising events and dinners. He was a world traveler who planned a vacation every year and also would take a two week trip to Texas to visit his brother and sister. Milton also became very active in the Hispanic community in Melrose and was a benefactor to many organizations.
Survivors include his brother and sisters, Sylvester (Ann) Nietfeld of Meire Grove, Gladys (Mike) Braun of Regal, and Patricia Meyer of Sauk Centre; brother-in-law, Myron Ellis; sister-in-law, Shirley Nietfeld; and many nephews and nieces.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, William "Bill" Nietfeld, Henry Nietfeld, Dr. A. B. Nietfeld, Elmer Nietfeld, Margaret Nietfeld, Clara Ellis, John B. Nietfeld, Joseph Nietfeld, Roman Nietfeld, and Catherine Meyer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Joe Meyer, Phil Braun, Richard Nietfeld, Jim Nietfeld, Patrick Nietfeld, and Mark A. Meyer. Cross bearer will be Mary Pittelko and scripture bearer will be Jim Meyer.
