Mildred M. Vogel, age 90 of Freeport died on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the Monticello-Big Lake Community Nursing Home in Monticello.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in MELROSE and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church in FREEPORT. Golden Years Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers will pray at 4 pm followed by parish prayers at 7 pm Friday evening at the funeral home in MELROSE.
Mildred Vogel was born on November 25, 1913 in Freeport, Minnesota to Henry and Theresa (Bormas) Stueve. She was united in marriage to Fred A. Vogel on September 20, 1932 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. She was a beautiful homemaker and mother on a farm in Oak Township in Freeport until 1966. She moved into town in Freeport for 32 years. Mildred became very involved in quilting. She resided at the Nursing Home Assisted Living in Albany for two years, Care Free Living in St. Cloud for 5 years, and Monticello-Big Lake Communtiy Nursing Home in Monticello for one year. Mildred was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Golden Years Senior Citizens and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Janet Ostendorf and her husband, Lawrence of St. Joseph, Claude Vogel and his wife, Janice of Albany, Eileen Schwieters and her husband, Guy of Cross Lake, Mary Ann Lennon of St. Paul, Gerald Vogel and his wife, Linda of Osakis, Fred Vogel and his wife, Evelyn of Monticello, Mildred Overman and her husband, Edward of Freeport, Helen Obermiller and her husband, Dennis of Coon Rapids, Eunice Brazil and her husband, Mike of Monticello, and Bonita "Bonnie" Quast and her husband, Eugene of Silver Creek Hasty; 75 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Theresa Stueve; husband, Fred Vogel on July 6, 1998; nine brothers and sisters; and three great grandchildren.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeff Vogel, Keith Overman, Glenn Vogel, Floyd Ostendorf, Dave Olmscheid, and Terry Lennon. Serving as cross bearer will be Duane Ostendorf and scripture bearer will be Shelly Anderson. Quilt bearer will be Gina Oakland. Honorary bearers will be Golden Years Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers. Gift bearers will be Gene Quast and Linda Vogel. Mass servers will be Tom Vogel and Jay Vogel. Eucharistic Ministers will be Sheila Sorenson and Helen Obermiller. Lectors will be Debbie Schreifels and Karen Locnikar. Petitions will be read by Holly Aasen. A poem will be read by Barb Kallevig. Eulogy will be by Bonnie Quast.
