Mildred M. "Millie" Gerads, age 73 of Freeport died peacefully on Saturday, September 24 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Freeport. Golden Years Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers and Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Mildred Gerads was born September 1, 1932 in Albany, Minnesota to Oswald and Eleanor (Vanhoorik) Fischer. She was united in marriage to Norbert Gerads on October 9, 1956 in Albany. The couple farmed north of St. Anthony until retiring to Freeport in 1992. Mildred was a loving wife and mother of 49 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, Christian Mothers and the Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society. She belonged to the Christian Mother's Sewing Circle and the Freeport Senior Quilting.
Survivors include her husband, Norbert Gerads of Freeport; children, Leo Gerads and his wife, Debbie of Freeport, Marie Meinz and her husband, Mike of St. Augusta and Sue Gerads of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Brittany and Moriah Meinz, Jayme, Matt, Abby and Alex Gerads; brothers and sister, John Fischer and his wife, Frances of Freeport, Andy Fischer and his wife, Jan of Osakis, Jim Fischer and his wife, Betty of Albany, Ellie Kraemer and her husband, Ervin of Avon and Tom Fischer and his wife, Sharon of Albany; brother-in-law, Norbert Heinen and his wife, Marie of Albany; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Eleanor Fischer; grandson, Shawn Gerads; and sister, Marcella Heinen.
Casket bearers will be John, Andy, Jim and Tom Fischer, Jayme and Matt Gerads. Cross bearer will be Brittany Meinz and scripture bearer will be Alex Gerads. Gift bearers will be Abby Gerads and Moriah Meinz. Honorary bearers will be Golden Years Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers and Sacred Heart Catholic Aid Society.
