Matthew R. Engebretson, Sr., age 25, formerly of Sauk Centre, passed away Monday, October 3, 2011 in Velva, North Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Monday, October 10 at 11 a.m. at the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Matthew Robert Engebretson was born June 20, 1986 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota to John and Cynthia (Michels) Engebretson. He was a 2005 graduate of Sauk Centre High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. John C. Stennis. On January 5, 2009 he married Crystal Habbershon in Silverdale, Washington.

Matthew was an avid hockey fan and loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Crystal Engebretson; two children, Teagan and Matthew, Jr.; parents, John and Cindy Engebretson of New Richmond, Wisconsin; brothers and sister, Heidi (Tim) Hackbarth of Hammond, Wisconsin, JR (Jolene) Engebretson of New Munich, David Engebretson of New Richmond, Wisconsin; grandma, Bette Michels of Sauk Centre; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harris and Alice Engebretson and Robert Michels; and cousin, Griffin Michels.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jeff Chalich, Greg Geske, Tim Hackbarth, Dan Loos, Joseph and Mike Thomas.
