Mathilda "Tillie" Wenker, age 84, of Greenwald, died Sunday, July 25, 2010 surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Tom Becker officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. The Christian Women will pray at 5 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mathilda Barbara Burg was born September 11, 1925 in St. Martin, Minnesota to Peter and Barbara (Schmitz) Burg. She was united in marriage to Edmund "Eddie" Wenker on June 9, 1948 in St. Martin. The couple resided in Greenwald. Tillie was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald and the Christian Women. She was an excellent seamstress and known for her cooking and bread making. Tillie enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Ruth (Duane) Massmann of Farming, Robert (Connie) Wenker of Hewitt, David (Linda) Wenker of Melrose, Ann (Ralph) Mehr of Paynesville, Alan (Brenda) Wenker of Greenwald, Carol Wenker of Champlin, Laurie (Allan) Aaberg of Starbuck, Lois (Joe) Wander of Oak Grove, and Tom (Shelly) Wenker of Melrose; 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Bruce Kastel.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Wenker on July 25, 2005; parents; children, John Wenker, Jane Kastel, and one infant son; brothers, Emil Burg, Hubert Burg, Edward Burg, Edmund Burg, Aloys Burg, and Raymond Burg; sisters, Mary Winter, Margaret Douvier, Clara Doll; and infant sister, Mathilda Burg.
Serving as casket bearers will be Charles Kastel, Zach Aaberg, Nick Wander, Grant Wenker, Matt Mehr, and Adam Massmann. Cross bearer will be Mason Wenker and scripture bearer will be Michelle Olson. Readers will be Alyssa Heinen and Melissa Wenker and the petitions will be read by Jennifer Massmann, Kayla Wenker, and Sarah Aaberg. Gift bearers will be Mackenzie Wander, Noah Wenker, and Lynn Wenker and the eulogy will be read by Carol Wenker.
