Mary Mae E. Olson, age 94 of Sauk Centre, passed away with family by her side on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Woodcrest Assisted Living in Alexandria, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 4 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Jeremy Theis officiating. A family inurnment will be held in St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mary Mae Elizabeth Minette was born July 28, 1927 in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to George and Mary (Zenius) Minette. She was united in marriage to Virden Olson on October 10, 1946 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed all of their lives in Osakis and the Sauk Centre area. They retired from farming in 2005 and moved into town in Sauk Centre.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and the Christian Mothers. Mary Mae loved playing cards, dancing with Virden, planting beautiful flowers, quilting with the Ladies Club group, and watching birds on the feeders. Mary Mae was a wonderful cook and baker; all that knew her knew that they were welcome at her table. She also enjoyed going to the kids’ sporting events. Mary Mae loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include her children, Bonnie (John) Nagel of Little Falls, Linda (Wayne) Thom of Swanville, Perry Olson of Long Prairie, Sandy (Larry) Thom of Melrose, Lonney (Charlie) Olson of Sauk Centre, Kim (Sherry) Olson of Sauk Centre, Lance Olson (Beth Carstens) of Sauk Centre, Shelly Rust of Belgrade, Patrice Koshiol of Paynesville, Marty (Heather) Olson of Little Sauk, and Shannon Olson (Nick Meyer) of Sauk Centre; 37 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Proell of Sauk Centre and Shirley Marthaler of Sauk Centre; sister-in-law, Myrtle Judes of Sauk Centre; and brother-in-law, Benny Nietfeld of Greenwald.
Mary Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Virden Olson on February 18, 2017; parents; sons, Todd Olson on June 21, 2017 and Joel “Jody” Olson on May 24, 2020; sisters, Millie Rieland, Leona Bromenshenkel, and Delphine Nietfeld; and brother, Bud Minette.
