Mary Zwack

Mary A. Moening Zwack, age 92 of Melrose, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Melrose Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council, Legion of Mary, and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mary Ann Elfering was born July 11, 1917 in Freeport, Minnesota to Bernard and Anna (Altman) Elfering. On May 23, 1939 she was united in marriage to Leo Moening at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. After Leo's death, she married Roman Zwack on April 12, 1986 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Mary spent most of her life farming on the family farm northeast of Melrose.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council, St. Mary's Mission Society, Legion of Mary, and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050. She was also a member of the Melrose Senior Citizens which she was president for 23 years. Mary enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing and playing cards.

Survivors include her children, James (Julie) Moening of Apple Valley, Jeanette (Virgil) Kulzer of Paynesville, Ronald (Joelle) Moening of Melrose, Leon (Kathy) Moening of St. Cloud, and Mary Kay Moening of St. Joseph; and 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Leo Moening on January 6, 1976 and Roman Zwack on September 12, 1997; 11 brothers and sisters; and one great-grandson, Brandan Krieger.

Serving as casket bearers will be Colin Moening, Brant Moening, Jason Moening, Darren Moening, Matthew Moening, and Chad Kulzer. Cross bearer will be Danette Mannis.
