Mary M. Olson, age 91 of Westport/Villard, died April 16, 2019 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23rd at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and will continue Tuesday morning from 10 –11 a.m. in First Lutheran Christian Life Center. Interment will take place in the Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard.
Mary Marie Masteller was born January 30, 1928 in Douglas Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, the daughter of Carrie (DeBord) and Fred P. Masteller. Mary attended school through the 8th grade. On June 4, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Walter Olson in Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Mary and Walt built their home on Old County Road 28 where she lived until her death. Mary was always working beside her husband, Walt at Olson Machine Company in Westport where she made thousands and thousands of sprockets and did whatever needed to be done. When she and Walt owned the Westport Legion, each Sunday evening Mary would sell admission tickets, enjoy the Polka music and watch all the dancing. She was a diligent homemaker making sure dinner was always at 12 Noon and supper was at 5 p.m. each evening. Mary enjoyed being a mom to Albert and a grandmother to her six grandchildren. She enjoyed every minute she could spend with her great grandchildren especially looking at pictures and visiting.
Mary is survived by her son, Albert Koppen of Villard; six grandchildren, Jessie Koppen of Rockville, Andrea ( Oscar) Lopez of Willmar, Jennifer (Jason) Hagen Glenwood, Nikki Koppen of Swift Falls, Steven Koppen (Theresa Sampson) of Villard, and Sarah (Chris) Koppen-Just of Villard; and 11 great grandchildren with another one on the way, Tyler, Leah, Makayla, and Jonathan Hagen, Chelsea, Oscar, and Giovanni Lopez, Jacob, Levi, and Skyler Koppen-Just and Tate Sampson.
She is preceded by her husband, Walter on April 18, 1999; and her siblings, Susan Koppen, Richard Masteller, Hank Masteller, Ralph Masteller, George Masteller, Ray Masteller, and Alice Brauninger.
