Mary Mayer

Mary K. Mayer, age 68 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Tuesday, September 7, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 10 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The celebrant will be Rev. James Statz with Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt concelebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mary Kathleen Kane was born October 22, 1941 in Alexandria, Minnesota to Lawrence and Bertha (Schlicht) Kane. On September 3, 1966 she married David Mayer at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union, Minnesota. The couple has resided in Sauk Centre since 1967.Mary K. was a 1959 graduate of Sauk Centre High School, a 1963 graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, and did her graduate work at several universities including Hofstra University and Stanford University, under the National Defense Education Act (NDEA). She taught high school English and German in Glenwood from 1963 to 1966, Robbinsdale from 1966 to 1967, and Sauk Centre from 1982 until retiring in 1999.

Mary K. was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers, was a Paul Harris Fellow(Rotary), and was an Oblate of St. Benedict's Monastery.Mary K. loved having her family come to visit, enjoyed sewing, especially christening gowns, growing her perennial gardens, cooking and baking.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. David Mayer of Sauk Centre; four children, Paul Mayer (Nicole) of Duluth, Mark Mayer (Jennifer) and Ann Mayer, all of Maple Grove, and Kate Mayer (fiancé, Paul Nutting) of St. Paul; seven grandchildren, Ella, Annie, Grace and Faith Mayer, Madeleine, Ethan, and Charlie Guell; brothers, Patrick Kane (Pam Acheson) of St. Cloud and Steven Kane (Yvonne Girard) of Marshall; brother-in-law, Tom Mayer (Mary) of Sauk Centre; sister-in-law, Ann Mayer Geagan of Mt. Dora, Florida; nieces and nephews, Mitchell Mayer (Paula) of New Prague, Timothy Mayer (Susie) of Crystal, Molly Mayer McKinney (Will) of Sartell, Peter Scheveling (Natalie) of Eustis, Florida, Jude Scheveling (Amy) of St. Augustine, Florida, and Jacob DeYounge of Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two children, including Margaret Mary on September 16, 1974.

Serving as casket bearers will be David Sillerud, David Kroshus, Chuck Leen, Gary Nelson, Steve Haeny, Dan Knutson, Dennis Sueflow, and Bob Bjork. Cross bearer will be Joan Tegels. Honorary bearers will be Deb Sillerud, JoAnn Meyer, Claren Kane, Carol Ordal, Jami Juelke, and Barb Wiegers.
