Martin J. Vait, age 62 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, July 18 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Reverends Geary and Carol Smith officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre.Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and on Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Martin Joseph Vait was born September 22, 1948 in New Ulm, Minnesota to Rudolph and Shirley (Weisensel) Vait. He graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1966 and the St. Cloud Vocational Technical College in 1969. He married Donna Long on May 26, 1973, they later divorced. Martin owned and operated Vait Welding and Repair since 1975. He married Sandra Carlin on June 16, 1984 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Martin was a John Deere collector and enjoyed auctions, antiques, home improvement projects, bowling, tractor pulls, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and driving around the countryside.
Martin was a member of Catholic United Financial and Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Vait of Sauk Centre; children, Jodilynn (Kenneth) Cichon of Sauk Centre, Nancy (Dale) Bosshardt of Melrose, Teresa (Ben) Cheadle of Padua and Mark Vait of Sauk Centre; 8 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Delores (Ramiro) Rodriquez of Laredo, Texas, Darlene Rooney of Sauk Centre, Myron (Mary) Vait of Clearwater, Howard (Betty) Vait of Stanley, Wisconsin, Alfred Vait of Jupiter, Florida, Joanne (Timothy) Guard of Brenham, Texas, Lester (Susan) Vait of Springfield, Missouri, Norbert (Ruth) Vait of Brooten, Randy (Lisa) Vait of Clearwater, Donald (Terry) Vait of Clearwater, Gordon (Lorianne) Vait of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, and Gregg (Anna) Vait of Pierz.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rochelle Lehner; grandson, Jimmy Cichon; brother, Glenn Vait; brother-in-law, Robert Rooney, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Eileen Vait.
Serving as casket bearers will be Mark Vait, Ken Cichon, Rich LeBraun, Gary Messer, Mark Heinze, Wayne Noack, Ben Cheadle and Josiah Kircher. Serving as honorary bearers will be his grandchildren, Brittany Kircher, Trisha Bosshardt, Stephanie Cheadle, Mickey Cichon, Myles Cheadle, Brock Bosshardt and Caleb Cheadle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
