Marion M. Menge, age 89 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Grey Eagle, died Monday, November 7, 2005 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 11 at the United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Barbara Lindgren officiating. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12 at the Ada Municipal Cemetery in Ada, Minnesota.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Grey Eagle and for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church in Grey Eagle.
The Lord called home one of the good guys. Anyone who met Marion walked away thinking, there is a true gentleman.
Marion was born April 12, 1916, in Lockhart Township, Norman County, Minnesota to Ernest and Marie (Mayer) Menge. He attended school in Ada, Minnesota and graduated from Ada High School in 1934. Marion began working at Ada National Bank in September 1934, until March 1942, when he entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the southwest Pacific during most of his naval service and was discharged in June, 1946.Marion married Elaine M. Olson at Nashua, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, on September 25, 1948. He worked at Ada National Bank from 1950 until January 1963, when he purchased the bank at Grey Eagle, Minnesota and resided there since that time. In 1976 Marion retired.He was a member of United Methodist Church of Grey Eagle and served on the city council for many years. He was instrumental in getting low rent housing apartments built in Grey Eagle and took an active part in many community events. Marion was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
Those who shall miss him the most include daughter, Marsha Hill and her husband, Ron and children Summer and Trevor; son, Mark and his wife, Cheryl and his daughter, Jessica; sisters, Florence Menge of Ada, and Bernice Stordahl of Fargo, North Dakota; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased by his lovely wife, Elaine; brothers, Clifford, Willis and George; and sister, Maria.Marion enjoyed a good book, a good joke, a good bowling game and a good round of golf.
Casket bearers will be Loren Roe, Bob Kaufman, Don Brown, Elwood Stordahl, Bob Bearson, and Duane Stordahl.
