Marie J. Vornbrock, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 17 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home followed by the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m.
Marie Josephine Walz was born May 21, 1927 in Lake George Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Leo and Margaret (Bosl) Walz. On September 27, 1951 she was united in marriage to Wilfred A. Vornbrock at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed near Padua until they moved to Sauk Centre in 1954. Marie worked as a nurse's aide at the Serepta Home, then later at Fingerhut, and at the Super D Store for six years. She also worked in housekeeping and supervising at the high school and then 11 years with HEI. Marie enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, and her time volunteering at Holy Family School and the Senior Dining Site.
Marie was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and the Mater Dolorosa Society.
Marie is survived by her children, Duane (Leah) Vornbrock of Sauk Centre, Margaret (Vernon) Walter of Sauk Centre, John Vornbrock of Sauk Centre, and Karen (Mark) Westbrock of Sauk Centre; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Robert) Schmidt of Sauk Centre, Mildred Poepping of Sauk Centre, and Carol (Jim) Prodinsky of Melrose; and brother, Donald (JoAnn) Walz of Sauk Centre.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred A. Vornbrock on April 22, 1996; and parents, Leo and Margaret Walz.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandsons, Steven Ahrens, Jesse Westbrock, Matthew Walter, Jeremy Westbrock, Nathan Walter, and Jordan Westbrock. Serving as cross bearer will be Courtney Westbrock and scripture bearer will be Jim Bosl. Honorary bearers will be the Christian Mothers.
