Marie A. Viere, age 89 of New Munich died Saturday, December 13, 2003 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church in New Munich. St. Anne's Christian Mothers and Immaculate Conception Catholic Aid Association will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Melrose.
Marie Viere was born on June 4, 1914 in Oak Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to August and Josephine (Korte) Kohorst. She was one of 13 children and attended school in Albany. She was united in marriage to Joseph H. Viere on September 6, 1939, in Albany. The couple farmed near New Munich until 1978 when they retired in New Munich. In 1998 they moved to Park View Center until 2001 when she became a resident at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Marie was talented in so many ways. She made beautiful quilts and doilies for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren which we will always treasure. She was an excellent cook and baker and her entire family cherished the meals she prepared. She loved to travel with her husband and family. Marie will always be remembered as a devoted wife and a warm and gentle mother and grandmother. Her family will always think of her with great pride. Marie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Anne's Christian Mothers and Immaculate Conception Catholic Aid Association.
Survivors include her children, Ardell Goebel and her husband, LuVern of Cold Spring, Mary Wensmann and her husband, Larry of St. Joseph, Ken Viere and his wife, Arlene of Cold Spring, Dorothy Schulzetenberg and her husband, Dave of Sauk Centre, Joe Viere and his wife, Connie of St. Joseph, Kathy Winter and her husband, Richard of St. Cloud, and Kevin Viere and his wife, Ann of Melrose; 29 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter; sisters, Emma Voit and Evelyn Luethmers both of Albany.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, August and Josephine Kohorst; husband, Joseph Viere on August 6, 2000; three grandchildren, Shannon Winter, Sean Viere, and Mary Viere; sisters, Gertrude Wohletz, Ursala Shay, Rose Wensmann, Katherine Shay, Veronica Klassen, Dorothy Kohorst, Theodora Kohorst; brothers, Clem, Ervin, and Joe Kohorst.
Serving as casket bearers will be Eric Goebel, Greg Wensmann, Jade Viere, Brandon Winter, Kerry Melius, and Lori Drossel. Serving as cross bearer will be Angie Viere and scripture bearer will be Kim Sieben. Honorary bearers will be St. Anne's Christian Mothers and Immaculate Conception Catholic Aid Association. Gift bearers will be Lois Vouk and Brian Winter. Mass servers will be Craig Viere and Mike Viere. Lectors will be Kay Medelberg, Sheila Connell, and Chris Viere.
