Marie Thull

Marie E. Thull, age 95 of Greenwald, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the CentraCare Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Omar Guanchez officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Greenwald. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Women and the Daughters of Isabella at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Marie Elizabeth Sand was born December 7, 1917 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Herman and Elizabeth (Humbert) Sand. She completed schooling through the eighth grade and then helped her family on the farm. On September 27, 1937 she was united in marriage to John A. Thull at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed near Greenwald until their retirement in 1980 and moved into town. In 2012, Marie moved to Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald, St. Ann's Christian Women, and the Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle. Marie enjoyed quilting, playing cards in a card club in Greenwald for 30 years, traveling, and dancing.

Survivors include her children, Alvin (Marjorie) Thull of Sauk Centre, Art (Marge) Thull of Greenwald, Kathleen Welle of Fridley, Jane Becker (John McCullough) of Naperville, Illinois, Richard (Marion) Thull of Greenwald, Willie Thull of El Topia, Washington, Mary Zenzen of Bristol, Pennsylvania, and Dr. Ted Thull of Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Paul (Doreen) Sand of Alexandria, Rose Poepping of Melrose, Edwin Sand of Melrose, Walter Sand of New Munich, and Eileen Frieler of Annandale; and sister-in-law, Theresia Sand of Richmond.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John Thull on November 15, 1981; parents; brother, Sylvester Sand; and sons-in-law, Roger Becker and Earl Welle.

Serving as casket bearers will be John Thull, Jack Thull, Shari Welle, Brenda Eibensteiner, Jay Becker, Dean Becker, Debbie Ramaley, and Lori Johannes. Cross bearer will be Kallie Schreifels and scripture bearer will be Luke Eibensteiner.
