Marie Thell

Marie A. Thell, age 82 of Grey Eagle died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Arlie Sowada officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church chapel in Grey Eagle. Christian Mothers and St. Frances Mission Group will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Friday evening.

Marie Ann Thell was born Aug. 1, 1922 in Krain Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John and Mary (Rueter) Rosen. She was united in marriage to John S. Thell on April 25, 1944 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony, MN. The couple farmed all their lives near Grey Eagle. Marie worked a short time at Fingerhut and was a cook for many years at the Rock Tavern. She moved to the Village View Apartment in Grey Eagle in Sept 2001. She was a resident at Pine Villa Care Center, Melrose since April 2003.She enjoyed her work on the family farm. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, canning and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle, Christian Mothers, St. Frances Mission Group, Grey Eagle Senior Citizens and the Grey Eagle Gababouts Home Extension Club.

Survivors include her children, Doris Mayers and her husband, Hilary of Fridley, Rosemary "Rosie" Ostendorf and her husband, Marvin "Bud" of Melrose, Alice Wiechmann and her husband, Rich of St. Cloud, Arnie Thell and his wife, Betty of St. Cloud, Jim Thell of Grey Eagle and Karen Weidner and her husband, Bob of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Lisa Schloegl (Tom), Lori Koester (Al), Leon Mayers, Mike Ostendorf, Kim Ostendorf, Todd Ostendorf (LeAnn), Chris Wiechmann, Tom Wiechmann, Gail Davis (Aaron), Beth Wiechmann (fiancé, Scott Perning), Greg Wiechmann, Sherry Welliver (Joel), Matt Bieniek, Dan Weidner and Melissa Weidner; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Amanda and Emily Koester and Andrew, Morgan and Jonathan Ostendorf; sister and brother, Monica Mayers and her husband, Ervin of Melrose, and Al B. Rosen and his wife, Norma Jean of St. Cloud.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John who died Jan. 4, 1989; brothers, John, Paul, Bernard, Mathew, Norbert and Peter Rosen; and sister, Elizabeth Baumgartner.

Serving as casket bearers will be Michael Ostendorf, Todd Ostendorf, Leon Mayers, Chris Wiechmann, Tom Wiechmann, Greg Wiechmann, Daniel Weidner and Matthew Bieniek. Serving as cross bearer will be Sherry Welliver and scripture bearer will be Melissa Weidner. Honorary bearers will be Lourdine Berscheit, Carrie Ahrens, Alvina Call, Isabelle Ostendorf, Lori Wolf, Marion Nohner, Marilyn Muellner, Dorothy Berscheit and the Christian Mothers and St. Frances Mission Group. Gift bearers will be Marie's godchildren, Bob Baumgartner and Carol Bertram. Lectors will be Kim Ostendorf and Lori Koester. Beth Wiechmann will read the petitions. Eucharistic Ministers will be Rosie Ostendorf and Lisa Schloegl. Greeters will be Gail Davis and Melissa Weidner.
