Marie Karnes

Marie Eva Karnes, age 90 of Maplewood, formerly of Grey Eagle, passed away peacefully at 4 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at her home in Maplewood, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9 at Grey Eagle United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Gary Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church in Grey Eagle.

Marie Eva Rosty was born September 26, 1924 in Burtrum, Minnesota, to Thomas and Eva Rosty. She wed at the age of 17 when she married the love of her life, Laurence Karnes, in 1942, and was married for 71 years until Laurence passed in 2013. Marie was a caretaker at Ramsey County Hospital for many years, and was a member at the Evangelical Brethren Church of Grey Eagle Minnesota for years, In her free time, Marie liked to garden, read, do puzzles and watch some of her favorite western movies. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. Marie and Laurence spent their lives together mostly on their farm, north of Grey Eagle, where they raised their four children. Her family and friends will never forget the fond memories spent with her at the cabin in Mora, Minnesota that she and Laurence owned. Grandchildren recall spending time agate and clam hunting there, near the river.

Marie was always a loving, passionate woman, and is survived by her sisters, Carrie Mallinger and Barb Emeott; sister-in-law, Marilyn Rosty; three sons, Gary (Linda) Karnes of McGregor, Dale (Laurie) Karnes of Oakhill, and Loren (Janet) Karnes of LeSueur; daughter, Lois (Rod) Forsburg of Hammond, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren, Tammy and Steven Karnes, Travis, Erin, and Jesse Karnes, Kristian and Kassandra Karnes, Heather Sperl, and Elizabeth Tibbetts; and four great-grandchildren, Katie and Tim, McKenna White, and Avianna Karnes.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Eva Rosty; husband, Laurence Eugene Karnes; sisters, Helen Bollig and Darline Jennings; brothers, Carl and Gordon Rosty; and grandson, Jacob Sperl.

Serving as casket bearers will be Travis, Jesse, Kristian, Kassee, Steven, and Erin Karnes, Heather Sperl, and Tim Schwietz.
