Margaret C. Niehoff, age 90 of Melrose died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at her daughter's home in Cold Spring.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Legion of Mary, St. Francis Mission Group, and Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m.

Margaret Niehoff was born February 23, 1915 in St. Killian, Minnesota to Joseph and Philomene (Duclos) Wachman. She was united in marriage to Frank Niehoff on September 22, 1936 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed west of New Munich. Margaret was involved in church groups and the choir at the New Munich parish. The couple moved to Melrose in 1968. Margaret worked in housekeeping at the Melrose Area Hospital for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing cards, crocheting, flowers, and baking desserts. She was an avid Twins and Timberwolves fan. Margaret was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; she had been an active member of the Legion of Mary and Vice President for many years of the St. Francis Mission Group. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Auxiliary member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and of the Melrose Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Joanne Wolf and her husband, James of Cold Spring, Marilyn Laing and her husband, Richard of Sioux City, IA, Janet Galloway and her husband, Don of Sarasota, FL, Tom Niehoff and his wife, Becky of Cincinnati, OH, and Gary Niehoff and his wife, Karen of Cold Spring; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; brother, Jerome Wachman and his wife, Phyllis of Holiday, FL; and sisters-in-law, Mathilda Wachman of St. Martin and Eleanor Niehoff of New Munich.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Philomene Wachman; husband, Frank Niehoff on May 9, 1985; brothers and sisters, Barbara, Julia, Kathryn, Raymond, Eleanor, Henry, Agnes, Alex, Alexia, and Gregor.

Serving as casket bearers will be Steve Galloway, Kevin Wolf, Chris Niehoff, Matt Niehoff, Tim Laing, and Tom Laing. Serving as cross bearer will be Michael Niehoff. Honorary bearers will be Sara Thompson, Carla Wolf, Terri Lumley, Molli Ginger, and DeeDee Watkins.
