Marcella Fichtinger

Marcella G. "Sal" Fichtinger, age 94 of New Munich, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Tree of Life Assisted Living in New Munich, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, prior to the Mass.

Marcella Gertrude Sand was born April 16, 1924 on the family farm in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Peter and Elizabeth (Thull) Sand. On October 26, 1946 she married Ralph Fichtinger in New Munich. After their marriage, the couple lived and raised their family on the family century farm. After they retired, they continued to live on the farm. In 2012, Sal moved to Park View Assisted Living in Melrose and recently resided at the Tree of Life Assisted Living in New Munich.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and the St. Ann's Christian Mothers. Sal enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, and painting. She wasn't afraid of trying different things.

Survivors include her children, Gary (Ann) Fichtinger of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Pat (Gordon) Gillesby of Andover, Minnesota, Gayle (Paul LaFreniere) Fichtinger of New London, New Hampshire, and Mark (Michelle Levinski) Fichtinger of Glenside, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Michael, Paul, David (Melissa), Leah (Orel), Jeremiah (Jamie), Lewis (Amanda), and Emma; nine great-grandchildren, Maria, Raymond, Greta, Nora, Ana, Genc, Allie, Henry, and Harper; brothers, Levinis "Lee" (Rita) Sand of St. Cloud and Severin (Genevieve) of Sauk Rapids; and sister, Bertilla "Bert" Caspers of Melrose.

Sal was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Fichtinger on May 20, 2009; parents, Peter and Elizabeth Sand; brothers, Clarence, Romie, Elmer, Alvin and Alcuin Sand; sister, Rosella Hopfer; and infant sister, Rosina Sand.

Serving as casket bearers will be Gary Fichtinger, Mark Fichtinger, Paul Fichtinger, David Fichtinger, Lewis Gillesby, and Jeremiah Gillesby. Serving as cross bearer will be Raymond Fichtinger. Reader will be Maria Fichtinger. Gift bearers will be David and Melissa Fichtinger's Family. Eucharistic Minister will be Melissa Fichtinger. The eulogy will be given by Gary Fichtinger, Pat Gillesby, Gayle Fichtinger, and Mark Fichtinger.
