Magdalen Soenneker, age 96, of Melrose, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 13 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Mary's Christian Mothers, Saints Bernard and Elizabeth Catholic Aid prayers will be held at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Magdalen (Wielenberg) Soenneker was born May 26, 1911 in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Frank and Elizabeth (Gramke) Wielenberg. She married Joseph A. Soenneker on November 5, 1941 in Melrose, Minnesota. They farmed in Melrose Township until retiring in 1974. She remained on the farm with her son Joseph until entering Das Goldene Wohnheim in October of 2006, where she lived until November 2, 2007. Magdalen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Saints Bernard and Elizabeth Catholic Aid Council, St. Mary's Christian Mothers, and the Crosier Apostolate.
Survivors include her sons, Henry of Bluffton, Norbert and his wife, Charlotta, of Clarkson, Kentucky, Joseph and David, both of Melrose; daughters, Mary and her husband, Joel Larson of Pope Valley, California, and Helen and her husband, John Abelseth of Richmond, British Columbia; and 13 grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Fuechtmann of Long Prairie, Alvina Strom of Melrose, and Marie Bosl of Sauk Centre.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph in 2000; son, Aloysius in 2004; one infant granddaughter; sisters, Anna and Agnes; brothers, Henry, Edwin and Joseph.
Serving as casket bearers will be Herbert Wielenberg, Melvin Wielenberg, James Bosl, Earl Fuechtmann, Arnold Soenneker, and Edmund Pohlmann. Honorary casket bearers will be Kitty Mueller, Jeanett Barth, Debbie Hellermann, Shanon Mueller, Aggie Hinnenkamp, Bernice Primus, Carol Pohlmann, Anna Hellermann. Cross bearer will be Marlayna Soenneker and scripture bearer will be Debra Larson.
