Mae M. Lyon, age 91 of Alexandria, and formerly of Grey Eagle , passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 29 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle with Pastor Michael Bitz and Pastor Fred Kutter officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Grey Eagle.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Grey Eagle and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mae Marie Olson was born November 29, 1926 at home in Upsala, Minnesota to Ivar and Esther (Hokanson) Olson. She graduated from Upsala High School in 1944. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grey Eagle. She worked at a defense plant in Minneapolis during the war years. She also worked for Superintendent Belsaas Family for three years at Upsala and Braham, Minnesota. On December 10, 1950 she married Melvin Lyon at Willmar, Minnesota. They farmed for over 50 years near Grey Eagle. After selling the farm, they moved to Alexandria, Minnesota in 2001. She loved her family and enjoyed being with them. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, canning, making quilts, and helping with the farm work with her husband of over 57 years.
Survivors include her children, Jeanie (Gene) Dickey of Alexandria, Judy (Carlo) Schwinn of Sartell; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Swanson of Alexandria, Jeremy (Lindsey) Dickey of Fargo, Tessa and Trina Schwinn of Sartell; great-grandson, Caden Swanson; nieces and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, Melvin Lyon in 2008; infant brother; Paul Olson; and brothers, Clifford and Carl Olson
Serving as casket bearers will be Wayne Olson, Chris Swanson, Jeremy Dickey, Leslie Lyon Jr., and Mike Westrich.
