Dr. Lyle T. Johnson, age 88 of Sauk Centre, who died on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 4 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. United Veterans prayer service will be at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. and Knights of Columbus at 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
Lyle Johnson was born on July 6, 1915 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Adolph and Flossie (Ploof) Johnson. He was raised in Grey Eagle, Minnesota, where he attended the first three years of high school, later graduating from Sauk Centre High School. He was a 1939 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and then practiced in Sauk Centre. On July 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to Prudence L. Arndt in St. Cloud. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army in the European theatre for two and one-half years.He was very active in the city of Sauk Centre. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Queen of Peace General Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and St. Michael's Council 3176 Knights of Columbus. He assisted in reactivating the Boy Scout organization, was a charter member of the Sauk Centre Lions Club and a member of the Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, American Legion Post 67 and the American Dental Association. Dr. Johnson was a kind and honorable man, who never boasted of the good deeds he performed during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife, Prudence Johnson of Sauk Centre; two children, Cynthia (Michael) Gleysteen of Tonka Bay and Craig (Debra) Johnson of Ramsey; grandson, Ben and Karl Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Fluth.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Serving as casket bearers will be Karl and Ben Johnson, Bob and Barry Clough, Jeff Trunnell and Mike Gleysteen. Cross bearer will be Joan Mackedanz and scripture bearer will be Marian Reynolds. Honorary bearers will be members of the Sauk Centre Lions Club.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
