Lucille Spanier Sinderman, age 88 of Melrose, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Tree of Life Assisted Living in New Munich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass.
Lucille was born May 13, 1930 in Elrosa, Minnesota to Nicholas and Cecelia (Deters) Barten. She was united in marriage to Leo Spanier on September 1st, 1947 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill. The couple lived on their farm in Greenwald until 1980 when they moved to Melrose. After Leo passed away in 1982, Lucille married Elmer Sinderman of Minneapolis on September 4, 1997. The couple lived on Birch Lake and moved back to Melrose in 2000. Lucille enjoyed baking, quilting, crocheting, gardening, dancing, playing cards, golfing and music.
Lucille was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald, a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle of Melrose and Catholic Aid Association.
Survivors include her children, Bill (Mary) Spanier of Melrose, Steve (Kate) Spanier of Big Lake, Susan (Michael) Scarborough of Alexandria, Cindy (Larry) Foulke of Pompano Beach, FL, Scott (June) Spanier of St. Cloud; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Casey, Reggie, Abby, Quinn, Paige, Grant, and Madeline; five great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Donald Barten of St. Francis, Elverna Keller of Sauk Rapids, Rosie Spanier of Spring Hill, Doris (Wilfred) Arens of Padua, and Janice (Phil) Miller of Sauk Centre; sisters-in-law, Monica Barten of Spring Hill and brother-in-law, Doug Dahlheimer of Alexandria.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husbands, Leo Spanier on Oct. 22, 1982 and Elmer Sinderman on November 18, 2017; sister, Odelia Dahlheimer; and brothers, Alfred, Ray and Dick Barten.
Urn bearers will be Lucille's children, Susan Scarborough, Cindy Foulke, Bill Spanier, Steve Spanier, and Scott Spanier. Cross bearer will be Paige Scarborough and scripture bearer will be Quinn Vennstra. Mass servers will be Ryan Spanier and Eric Spanier. Readers will be Tina Valerius, Ryan Spanier, and Ethan, Brynn, Max, and Taylor Spanier. Gift bearers will be Abby Spanier, Regie Spanier and Jayden Valerius. Mary Spanier and Mike Scarborough will be eucharist ministers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Tree of Life Assisted Living, New Munich.
