Lucille S. "Lucy" Raeker, age 88 of Melrose, died peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014 at her home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota.
Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church in Melrose.
Lucille Sophia Humbert was born October 19, 1925 in Eden Valley, Minnesota to Herman and Pauline (Nathe) Humbert. She married John "Clarey" Raeker on October 1, 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Lucy helped her husband at Raeker's Grocery in Melrose. The couple has been residents of Melrose since 1954. Prior to living in Melrose, they lived in Freeport for three years and in Rice for five years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 101, and the Christian Mothers.
Lucy enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards, sewing, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially, Twins baseball, basketball, and football.
Survivors include her husband, John "Clarey" Raeker of Melrose; daughter, Carol Lagermeier of Elk River; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Anne Raeker of Waite Park.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; son, Thomas Raeker, sisters, Rosemary Atkinson and Marcelle Ricker; and brother, Wilfred Humbert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Mary's School Endowment Fund in Melrose, Minnesota.
