Lucille A. "Lucy" Jansen, age 93 of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at White Pine Senior Living and Memory Care in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home followed by United Auxiliaries prayer service at 6 p.m. and Christian Mothers and Catholic United at 7 p.m.

Lucille A. Rieder was born July 11, 1918 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to John and Susan (Hoffman) Rieder. She was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone in St. Cloud and was promoted to chief operator in Park Rapids, where she met Roman Jansen. On June 14, 1947 she married Roman Jansen at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. The couple made their home in Sauk Centre and Lucy continued to be a telephone operator until her retirement. In recent years she had resided in the St. Paul area.Lucy was a lady of hospitality and enjoyed entertaining friends, family and religious. She was a perpetual volunteer, lending a hand wherever it was needed including Holy Family School and the Senior Center. For many years, she and Roman volunteered at the 4-H booth at the Stearns County Fair and they were also foster parents.

She loved to quilt, knit and crochet. She also delighted in making crafts, singing and playing cards.

Lucy was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic United, Daughters of Isabella, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary and the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a former member of the Sauk Centre Seniors.

Survivors include two children, Jerome "Jerry" (Carol) Jansen of St. Cloud and Jane (Patrick) Thiegs of Woodbury; nine grandchildren, Joe (Lisa) Thiegs, Becky Thiegs, Tom (Diane) Thiegs, Debbie (Andrew) Pelzmann, Mark (Nichole) Jansen, Dr. Cheryl (Matthew) Ethen, Janet (Jacob) Moen, Brian (Allison) Jansen and Mary (Christopher) Swanson; nine great-grandchildren with two more expected soon; two brothers, Rev. Don Rieder of St. Cloud and Robert (Kippy) Rieder of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roman Jansen on May 21, 1995; daughter, Janice Jansen in 1955; grandson, Kevin Jansen; sisters, Alma Rau, Margaret Wartman, Dorothy Boese and Kathleen Landowski; brothers, Edward, Walter, Harold, Lawrence, Norbert and John "Jack" Rieder.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mark and Brian Jansen, Joe and Tom Thiegs, Matt Ethen and Jacob Moen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or the Macular Degeneration Center at the University of Minnesota.
