Louis J. "Louie" Hiltner, age 90, of Sauk Centre, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26th at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Suhdansu Kumar, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sauk Centre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Louis John Hiltner was born November 16, 1927 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Josepha (Middendorf) Hiltner. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. On October 2, 1956, he married Rita Adrian at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Osakis for 40 years. They retired in 1996 and moved to Sauk Centre. Louie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved to joke and kid with his nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and he served on the Osakis Creamery Board from 1970 -1982. Louie enjoyed reviewing the numbers in the annual books.
Louie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Hiltner of Sauk Centre; children, James (Myla Jo) Hiltner of Osakis, David (Julie) Hiltner of Sauk Centre, and Barb (Pete) Hinnekamp of Melrose; 9 grandchildren, Bella, Beth and Ethan Hiltner, Tiffany and Alicia Hiltner, and Josh, Nick, Maria, and Mick Hinnenkamp; brothers and sisters, Vernon (Allison) Hiltner, John (Eileen) Hiltner, Doris (Eddie) Schneider, and Jane (Virgil) Fuchs; sisters-in-law, Pat (Allen) Ehlert and Marge Hiltner; and many nieces and nephews.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers, Edna (Tony) Cherne, Marie (Ray) Vos, Louise (Tony) Loxtercamp, George Hiltner, Erwin Hiltner, and Joseph Hiltner Jr.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Tiffany Hiltner, Bella Hiltner, Beth Hiltner, Alicia Hiltner, Josh Hinnenkamp, Ethan Hiltner, and Nick Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be his grandson, Mick Hinnenkamp and scripture bearer will be his granddaughter, Maria Hinnenkamp.
