Louis M. Doege, age 83 of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow Greenwood Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.

Friends may call from one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.Louis Matthew Doege was born April 7, 1927 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Herman and Grace (Hanson) Doege. At age 17, Louis entered the United States Navy. As a sailor in the second world war, Louis served on the USS Fremont and protected us along with his comrades. Upon his discharge from the service, he continued to protect his family and friends through his actions, including providing his blood for a transfusion which provided his grandson with a chance at life. Following his time in the service Louis worked on the ore boats in Duluth, purchased and worked a farm in Sauk Centre before moving to the twin cities, where he started driving truck. Louis was introduced to Elizabeth "Betty" Moore. The couple married on July17, 1971 in South Dakota and lived in the twin cities before moving back to Sauk Centre in the early 1990's.

Louis was a member of the American Legion Post 67 and the Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 in Sauk Centre. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Doege of Sauk Centre; children, Daniel Bolz of Pengilly, Richard (Patsy) Carlson of Pengilly, Mary Foster of Minneapolis, Bryan (Cheryl) Doege of Isanti, Sandy (Jeff) Macziewski of Minneapolis, John Motzko of Ham Lake, and Brent (Traci) Doege of Cambridge; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Gerald; step-daughter Sharon Carlson; and siblings, Ralph, Marge, and Edna.

Serving as casket bearers will be Randy Pfieffer, Steve Pfieffer, Mike Quade, Ken Quade, Rick Quade, and Larry Doege. Memorials are preferred.
