Lorraine Wessel

Lorraine "Mickey" Wessel, age 74, of Sauk Centre, died surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at her home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 27 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Lorraine "Mickey" Anna Fiedler was born March 20, 1939 in Little Falls, Minnesota to Casper and Irene (Waukoviak) Fiedler. On August 30, 1960 she married Norbert "Norby" Wessel at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. The couple had a dairy farm east of Sauk Centre until retiring in 2006 and moving to Sauk Centre.

She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and Christian Mothers. Mickey enjoyed cooking and baking, watching cooking shows, flower gardening and spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include five children, Pam (Tom) Koppelman of Melrose, Tom Wessel of Sauk Centre, Sharon Messer (significant other, Mike Hatlestad) of Sauk Centre, Mona (Bill) Marthaler of New Munich, and Tina (Jerry) Kulzer of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Nicole, Jamie, Justin, Cory, Eric, Jena, Heidi, Shawn, and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Jace and Karsten; sisters and brothers, Arlene (Donald) Messerich of Melrose, Janice (Robert) Derichs of Melrose, Casper (Dee) Fiedler, Jr. of Waite Park, Sylvester (Cindy) Fiedler of Albany, Melvin (Tillie) Fiedler of Albany, Billy Fielder of Albany, Allen (Jackie) Fiedler of Albany, Bernice Akervick of St. Wendel, Helen (Tim) Hinnenkamp of Melrose.

Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert "Norby" Wessel on October 5, 2013; parents; son, Marvin Wessel; great-grandson, Easton Chalich; sisters, Virginia Fiedler and Connie Buersken; and infant brother, Marvin Fiedler.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jamie Messer, Justin Messer, Cory Messer, Shawn Kulzer, Eric Marthaler, and Heidi Chalich. Cross bearer will be Nicole Koppelman. Honorary bearers will be Toni Wiener, Wendy Wessel, Rita Von Wahlde, Shirley Von Wahlde, Nancy Middendorf, Alice Soenneker, Deb Bromenshenkel, Barb Niehaus, Kathi Primus, Rita Primus and Judy Gamradt.
