Lorraine M. Schaefer, age 92 of New Munich, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Melrose, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Dan Walz officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in New Munich. Parish prayers will be at 4:30 p.m. and St. Anne's Christian Women will pray at 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Lorraine M. Wiechmann was born June 22, 1925 in Melrose, Minnesota to William and Rose (Austing) Wiechmann. After she graduated from high school, Lorraine worked in Minneapolis at the defense plant for a couple of years. She returned home and on May 29, 1945 she was united in marriage to Alfred Schaefer at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. The couple started farming south of New Munich until 1978 when they moved to town. During retirement, she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, quilting, fishing, going on trips to the casino, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Lorraine was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and St. Anne's Christian Women.
Survivors include her husband, Al Schaefer of New Munich; children, Dianne Feddema of Waite Park, Pat Frieler of Sauk Centre, Ken (Lois) Schaefer of New Munich, Roger (Rosie) Schaefer of Sauk Centre, Chuck (Jan) Schaefer of Melrose, Judy (Steve) Keller of St. Cloud, and Stan "Haskell" Schaefer of Waite Park; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Lawrence (Mae) Wiechmann of Melrose, Carol Pohlmann of Melrose, Claris (Julius) Massmann of Osakis, and Margie (Vernon) Stroeing of Freeport.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; sons-in-law, Ralph Feddema and LeRoy Frieler; sister, Florentine Korf; brother, Ervin Wiechmann; sister-in-law, Viola Wiechmann; and brothers-in-law, Joe Pohlmann and Jerry Korf.
Lorraine's family would like to thank the staff at Pine Haven in Melrose for the wonderful care they gave our mom.
Serving as casket bearers will be Keith Feddema, Brian Schaefer, Scott Schaefer, Joshua Schaefer, Kurt Frieler, Chad Schaefer, Michael Frieler, and Tyler Keller. Cross bearer will be Tracey Thielen and scripture bearer will be Michelle Kremers. Readers will be Kari Ann O'Keefe, Nicole Lauer, Heather Schaefer, and Ashley Keller. Gift bearers will be Tammy Squires, Kelly Coulter, and Kristi Soule. Honorary bearers will be St. Anne's Christian Women.
