Lorraine Ann Nathe, age 97 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. Sunday evening followed by the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m.

Lorraine Ann Schmitz was born August 8, 1915 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota to Edward and Lucy (Steffen) Schmitz. She graduated from high school at St. Joseph Academy in St. Paul and began college at the College of St. Catherine at age 16. Lorraine graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1935. Later she taught high school in Bird Island and Sauk Centre. She married Rudolph Nathe on June 17, 1940 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Together they owned and operated Nathe's Style Shop where Lorraine did the bookkeeping.

Lorraine was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, and principal and teacher of the CCD program at St. Paul's Church. She served on the Sauk Centre School Board and volunteered for various organizations, including the St. Michael's Hospital Auxiliary, Home School Board, Girl Scout leader, Meals on Wheels, and taught English to Hmong refugees. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, playing bridge, gardening, cooking and baking (known for her desserts) and doing needlework.

Lorraine is survived by her children, James (Margaret) Nathe of Waynesboro, Virginia, Mary (Thomas) Mayer of Sauk Centre, and Margaret Kearns of Duluth; grandchildren, David Nathe, Paul Nathe, Bridget Sabo, Mitchell Mayer, Andy Kearns, Tim Mayer, Emily Heirlmaier, and Molly McKinney; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph Nathe on April 14, 1970; parents, Edward and Lucy Schmitz; brothers, Lawrence, Edward, Richard, Joe, and Tony; and infant sisters, Elizabeth, Marcella, and Rose.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
