Lori A. Scherping, age 37 of Freeport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a three year battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the church in Freeport. The Christian Mothers of Freeport and St. Rosa will pray at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the church.
Lori Ann Scherping was born January 20, 1982 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Loren and Jane (Lange) Scherping. Lori grew up in Freeport and graduated from Melrose High School in 2000. She was employed with Christensen Group (formerly SMA insurance) in St. Cloud as an Account Client Representative for businesses for six years.
Lori was a blessing to all who came in contact with her. She had a positive attitude and was willing to help those in need and was always smiling, even when she was in pain or low on energy. She had given back by being involved in the Central Minnesota Chapter of Beginning Experience. Lori also had been involved with the St. Cloud Diocese Castaway Retreat and Central MN TEC (Together Encountering Christ) Retreat. Lori had a strong faith and put Christ first in everything she did.
Lori was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport and the Christian Women. She enjoyed attending Masses at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa while she lived at the parish house and loved being part of their church community. Lori loved being outdoors where she enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets, biking, hiking, and running. She truly appreciated everyone who volunteered to help her and always looked forward to paying it forward. Lori loved being with her family and friends and will be remembered for always putting others first.
Survivors include her parents, Loren and Jane Scherping of Freeport; brothers and sisters, Jason (Amy) Scherping of Freeport, Bryan (Kimberly) Scherping of St. Cloud, Sandy (Monte) Flath of Fargo, North Dakota, Randy (Megan) Scherping of Freeport, and Kristin (Nicholas) Kerfeld of St. Rosa; seven nieces and nephews, Tyler, Alyssa, Wyatt, Hailey, McKenna, Freya, and Ayla, with one on the way; and many loving relatives and friends.
Lori was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Laura Scherping and Hubert and Florence Lange; and uncles, Marvin Lange and Pete Jennissen.
Serving as casket bearers will be Lori’s brothers and sisters, Jason Scherping, Bryan Scherping, Sandy Flath, Randy Scherping, and Kristin Kerfeld. Cross bearers will be Alyssa Scherping and Wyatt Scherping and scripture bearers will be Hailey Weis and Tyler Scherping.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
