Loretta E. "Larry" Uphus, 98, of Melrose died peacefully Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Bob Rolfes officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Melrose.
Loretta Uphus was born Feb. 2, 1907 in Freeport, Minnesota to Bernard and Agnes (Woebkenberg) Heidgerken. She married Henry G. Uphus on Oct. 5, 1935 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. They lived in St. Paul for a few years moving to Freeport in 1951. They then moved to Greenwald where they farmed. Loretta was a resident of the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald.
Survivors include her children, Clyde Uphus (Sue) of Sauk Centre, Steve Uphus (Anna Mae) of Hastings, Joe Uphus (Rosanne) of Alexandria, Mary Thueringer (Gerald) of Maple Grove, Barbara Willett (Kurt) of Roseville; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Clime of Oakdale, and Bernadette Frevel (Julius) of Rosemount.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry G. Uphus in April of 1966; daughter, Agnes Ann Uphus; brothers, George and Alphonse Heidgerken, Norbert, Urban, Raymond, Walter, Lambert and Sonny Ricker, and Jimmy Woebkenberg; and sister, Beata Howet.
Casket bearers will be Greg Thueringer, Marc Willett, Brian, Bruce, Brad and Barry Uphus. Cross bearer will be Diane Gustafson and scripture bearer will be Michelle Thueringer.
