Loretta R. Gieske, age 92 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the CentraCare (St. Michael's) Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 4 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating, Rev. Eli Gieske concelebrating, and Deacon Tom McFadden assisting. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 6 p.m. followed by St. Theresa's Mission Group and the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Loretta Rose Radermacher was born January 8, 1922 in Avon, Minnesota to John and Frances (Jacques) Radermacher. She was united in marriage to Bernard Gieske on January 12, 1943 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Padua. Loretta was a homemaker who wrote the column, "Over the Kitchen Sink" for the Sauk Centre Herald and enjoyed writing local histories and for various organizations.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre where she served as a lector. Loretta was active the Christian Mothers, St. Theresa's Mission Society, Senior Citizens, Todd County Fair Board, and the Saukandettes Homemakers Group, DCCW, MCCL, and was a 4-H leader for over 30 years. Loretta enjoyed sewing and quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, traveling, playing cards, Scrabble and dancing.
Survivors include her children, Daniel (Gilda) Gieske of Sauk Centre, Kenneth (Deb) Gieske of Sauk Centre, Carol Gieske of Combermere, Ontario, Canada, Allen (Heidi) Gieske of Lindstrom, Gabe (Barb) Gieske of Sauk Centre, Kathleen (Deacon Tom) McFadden of Sauk Centre, and Thomas (Julie) Gieske of Sauk Centre; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gieske on January 31, 2009; brothers, Norman, Sylvester, Raymond, and John Radermacher; and sister, Virginia Balego.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jeremy Gieske, Josh McFadden, Phil McFadden, David McFadden, Kristofor Gieske, Ben Gieske, and John Gieske. Cross bearer will be Elizabeth McFadden and scripture bearer will be Jason Gieske. Honorary bearers will be the Christian Mothers and St. Theresa's Mission Group. Servers will be Caleb and Nathan Gieske and readers will be Heather Krohn, Amy Gieske, and Becky Gieske. Gift bearers will be Miriam Gieske and Christine McFadden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Paul's Church Addition Fund.
