Loretta A. Frieler, age 88 of Melrose, died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary, and Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Loretta Ann Mueller was born April 26, 1923 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Kettler) Mueller. On May 22, 1946 she married Edward Frieler at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed near Spring Hill for over 40 years until building their home in Melrose in 1982.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council, Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle of Melrose, and a lifetime member of the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. Loretta enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and while at Pine Villa, she enjoyed playing BINGO and saving her winnings for her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Frieler of Melrose; children, Jan (Harold) Goebel of Albany, Allen (Judy) Frieler of Sauk Rapids, Jim (Kathy Meehan) Frieler of Belgrade, and Cheryl (Lee) Person of Paynesville; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Agnes Hinnenkamp of Melrose, Lawrence (Millie) Mueller of Melrose, Della (Herb) Thelen of Melrose, Edward (Katherine "Kitty") Mueller of Melrose, and Irene Shay of Albany.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; son, Harold Frieler; infant son, Alvin Frieler; brother and sister, Joe Mueller and Mary Mueller.
Serving as casket bearers will be Steven Goebel, Shawn Frieler, Jarett Frieler, Angela Brown, Jason Person, and Stacy Herickhoff. Cross bearer will be Lisa Stangler and scripture bearer will be Janet Arceneau.
