Lois (Bernard) Henriksen, age 89, of Melrose, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Melrose.

Lois Ruth Bernard was born May 31, 1920 in Braddock, Pennsylvania to Harry and Bertha (Mottmiller) Bernard. In 1948 Lois moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and attended North Central Bible Institute. After graduation she found employment with the Department of Veteran Affairs at Ft. Snelling as an accountant where she worked until her retirement in the mid-1980's. On October 24, 1963 she married Walden Henriksen in St. Paul. Lois was a member of Summit Avenue Assembly of God Church in St. Paul where she enjoyed playing piano for the nursing home ministry. Lois never had children of her own, but loved and doted on her niece, Liz, and nephew, Bob, Jr. Lois was very close to her late brother, Bob, and his family and spent all her holidays and special days with them. She was thrilled when her great-niece, Donna Marie, and great-nephew, Bobby, were born.Lois and Walden traveled the United States extensively including an Amtrak trip to Washington State crossing the mountains. She thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of the countryside. Twice she visited the Holy Land and was very interested to share her experiences and the information gleaned about Jesus' life and teachings with others.

Lois is survived by her husband, Walden Henriksen of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Donna Bernard of Melrose; niece, Elizabeth Bernard of Blaine; nephew, Robert, Jr. (Cathy Jo) Bernard of Freeport; great-niece, Donna (Joshua) Falvo of Washington, PA; great-nephew, Robert P. (Rachelle) Bernard, III of Mora; and five great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bertha Bernard; and brother, Robert P. Bernard, Sr.
