Lloyd J. Berscheit, age 82 of Grey Eagle, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 12, 2015 at the CentraCare Health Hospital in Long Prairie, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 15 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church.
Lloyd John Berscheit was born May 3, 1932 in Grey Eagle, Minnesota to Anthony and Helen (VanHeel) Berscheit. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Heinen on April 19, 1955 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in St. Rosa. He worked at the hardware store in Browerville before moving to Grey Eagle. The couple farmed west of Grey Eagle; retiring in 1986. They moved to town where Lloyd continued his handyman skills. He built many neighborhood dairy barns, sheds, and wash lines. He enjoyed watching the Twins, fishing, Tony's Wednesday night chicken, and having a beer under the Maple tree with his neighbors and family.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grey Eagle and the American Legion Post 547.
Survivors include his children, Bruce (Diane) Berscheit of Waite Park, Mike (Kathy) Berscheit of Burtrum, Brad (Dorinda) Berscheit of Melrose, Kathy (Steve) Tschida of Grey Eagle, Nancy (Dale) Primus of Sauk Centre, Tom (Christy) Berscheit of Grey Eagle, Sharon (Joe) Rennie of St. Joseph and Carolee (Mike) Scherbing of Big Lake; 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way; and brother, Lester Berscheit of Grey Eagle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette Berscheit on May 25, 2002; and brothers, Bernard and Gordon Berscheit.
Casket bearers will be Chris Berscheit, Jeremy Berscheit, Ryan Tschida, Andrew Primus, Matthew Elliott, and Bo Scherbing. Cross bearer will be Heather Grothe and scripture bearer will be Carly Berscheit. Gift bearers will be Lester Berscheit and Bill Berscheit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the CentraCare Hospice in Sauk Centre.
