Lillian E. Beuning, age 83, of Melrose, formerly of Freeport, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, after a short battle with cancer at the Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday.

Lillian Beuning was born November 24, 1921 in Freeport, Minnesota to Nicholas and Lucy (Linn) Fabeck. She married Jerome B. Beuning on April 26, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. They farmed on the family farm near St. Rosa until retiring in 1988. They moved to Freeport where they resided until moving to Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Lillian enjoyed family and friends. She also liked to gamble and socialize with people. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport and the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Jerry Beuning of Melrose; children, Mary Ann Klasen (David) of Albany, Richard "Larry" Beuning (Elaine) of Freeport, Marlene Schmidt (Donald) of Hoffman, and Darrel Beuning (Barb) of Freeport; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Vorgert (Ervin) of Perham, Dorothy Kolb (Claude) of Shakopee, and Lu Ann Dickhaus of Melrose.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nicholas Fabeck, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Alcuin Dickhaus.

Casket bearers will be Pat Klasen, Mike Beuning, Steve Beuning, Dana Beuning, Mark Schmidt, and Glen Klasen. Lector will be Kim Terhaar. Mass servers will be Jill Beuning and Kelly Klasen. Cross bearer will be Alyssa Beuning and scripture bearer will be Kayla Beuning. Honorary bearers will be Christian Mothers.
