LeRoy C. Kapphahn, age 82, of Burtrum died peacefully Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2006 at Faith Community Church, Burtrum with Pastor Rodger Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the Moses Dane Cemetery, Burtrum with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Grey Eagle and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Burtrum.
LeRoy Kapphahn was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Oregon City, OR to Karl and Mabel (Myers) Kapphahn. He was united in marriage to Naomi I. Potts on June 21, 1946 in Burtrum. They resided in Burtrum where he was employed with the U.S. Postal Services as Postmaster in Burtrum. He was a member of Burtrum Free Methodist Church in Burtrum. LeRoy enjoyed hunting and fishing and belonged to an archery league.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Kapphahn of Burtrum; children, Gloria Hobbs (Jim) of Burtrum, Janice Gessell (Pat) of Blaine, and Kyle Kapphahn of Lenexa, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Donald Hobbs, Jeanne Lee (Perry), April Stancer (Shawn), Jackie Hobbs, Brad Gessell, Alyssa Towle (Craig); and 6 great-grandchildren, Haley and Garrett Gessell, Lexis, Landon and Avery Stancer, and Madison Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Loren Kapphahn; and 1 great-granddaughter, Riley Madison Stancer.
Casket bearers will be Darrel Kapphahn, Brad Gessell, Romie Gessel, Sr., Romie Gessel, Jr., Jerry Jackson, and Larry Fimon.
